Iran Denies Claims of Enriched Uranium Transfer

(MENAFN) A high-ranking Iranian figure dismissed on Monday reports suggesting Tehran plans to move its enriched uranium outside the country, firmly rejecting such speculation.

Speaking to a news agency, Ali Bagheri, the deputy for foreign policy at the Secretariat of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, stressed that “Iranian officials have no intention of transferring enriched nuclear material abroad.”

He further clarified that “Negotiations are not basically focused on such an issue,” underscoring that the matter is not central to ongoing discussions.

Meanwhile, Moscow reiterated on Monday its longstanding proposal to either process or hold Iran’s enriched uranium, presenting the offer as a way to reduce friction between Tehran and Washington. Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov noted that “This topic has been on the agenda for a long time," emphasizing that "Russia has been offering its services for quite a long time as a possible option that would lead to the removal of certain irritants for a number of countries.”

Strains between Iran and the United States have intensified since anti-government demonstrations erupted in Iran in late December. Reports have indicated that American naval forces are moving closer to the region, following an announcement by President Donald Trump.

Trump later confirmed that a substantial US “armada” was heading toward the area, cautioning Iran to engage in talks over its nuclear activities or risk possible military consequences.

Over the past several days, diplomatic efforts have accelerated, with multiple regional states — including Turkiye — stepping in to help defuse escalating tensions between the two sides.
