Iran’s IRGC Claims Strike on US Air Base After Sirik Island Incident

(MENAFN) Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said early Monday that it struck a US air base it claims was used to launch an attack on a telecommunications tower on Sirik Island in southern Hormozgan province, according to Iranian news agency.

In a statement cited by the agency, the IRGC said its Aerospace Force targeted and destroyed the facility from which US forces allegedly carried out the operation against the communications infrastructure on the island.

The force stated that the retaliatory strike was conducted hours after the reported US action and claimed that all intended targets were successfully hit.

It also issued a warning that any further attacks would be met with a response “different in scale and nature,” adding that responsibility for any escalation would lie with the United States.

US authorities had not issued any immediate response to the Iranian claims at the time of reporting.

Sirik Island lies near the Strait of Hormuz, a key global shipping route.
