Iran Grounds Flights at Major Airports Following Israeli Attacks

(MENAFN) Iran has suspended flight operations at three major airports after Israeli strikes targeted sites across the country on Monday, according to Iranian media reports.

Operations were halted at Mehrabad Airport in Tehran, as well as airports in Kermanshah and Mashhad, with suspensions covering all flights until further notice.

A news agency reported that air defenses were activated in the western city of Kermanshah after what it described as “hostile targets” were detected in the area’s airspace.

The disruption comes amid heightened regional tensions that escalated on Sunday, when Israel struck Beirut despite an ongoing ceasefire, prompting Iran to launch missiles toward northern Israel, followed by Israeli airstrikes on Iranian territory.

The wider region has remained on edge since joint US and Israeli strikes on Iran in late February triggered Iranian retaliation against Israel and other countries hosting US military assets.

Although a temporary ceasefire was reached on April 8, negotiations later stalled due to disagreements over implementation and subsequent developments.
