NEW: Home Heating Oil Costs Hit Record High Amid Trump’s Iran War — a 39% Hike in Northeastern States

WASHINGTON – This winter, families will be forced to spend record amounts on home heating oil amid President Trump’s war with Iran, per updated data released today by the Joint Economic Committee - Minority. Home heating oil is most commonly used in Northeastern states, including Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York, Rhode Island, and Vermont.

“President Trump’s reckless war with Iran has led home heating costs to spike for families across the Northeast,” said Senator Maggie Hassan, Ranking Member of the Committee. “With cold weather approaching, families are already under pressure from higher prices for everyday necessities, and now they face even more expensive heating costs. Instead of the relief President Trump promised, his war, tariffs, and other reckless policies continue to make it harder for families to afford the basics.”

Earlier this year, President Trump also proposed eliminating the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP), which helps hard-working families afford to heat their homes.

This analysis is part of Senator Hassan’s ongoing effort as Ranking Member of the Joint Economic Committee to quantify the economic impact that President Trump’s actions have on American families. She will continue to shed light on how Trump has personally profited off the presidency while Americans have faced rising costs under his watch. Senator Hassan will also continue to push the Trump administration to reverse course on his tariffs, illegal war with Iran, and other harmful actions that have driven up costs in all 50 states.
